Marc Abraham

Biography

Marc Abraham qualified as a vet from Edinburgh University and has treated a wide range of animals from dogs and cats, to farm and exotic species.

Marc is passionate about all animals, and he is just as comfortable helping them in his safe cozy warm consulting room as he is in a warzone or scene of natural disaster. Marc has managed teams of animal-rescue volunteer workers in post-tsunami Thailand and is currently planning a documentary about British donkey charity, Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land (SHADH), which not only treats sick and injured donkeys, but helps to educate poorer communities and change attitudes in the Palestinian West Bank.

Marc can be seen regularly on prime-time TV programmes, including Channel 4's Paul O'Grady Show, It's Me Or the Dog, Animal Rescue Live, ITV's Tonight Show, BBC Breakfast News and ITN News, and has recorded pet-related shows in Hollywood as well as for CNN USA nationwide. He has also successfully fronted radio-days for the UK's top insurance and pet-food companies and as resident vet at his local BBC Southern Counties Radio hosts a monthly phone-in programme .

As a journalist, Marc has penned weekly columns for Brighton-based property/lifestyle magazine Latest Homes (and prev. The Argus) for the last 4 years; and now writes the monthly 'The Funky Vet' column for national canine newspaper Our Dogs. He regularly writes on veterinary business topics including branding, PR, marketing and customer service, and also writes regular articles for the Veterinary Times. He frequently appears in special interest magazines such as Dogs Today, Your Cat, Your Dog and Dogs Monthly.

Marc regularly judges at dog shows and is a proud speaker at schools nationwide. He was recently invited to compere and present the first-ever Ultimate Pet Show at Birmingham's NEC in May 2009, which will also include the ThePet.net Awards.

Marc was recently awarded the national veterinary industry's prestigious veterinary 'Oscar', the Petplan Special Recognition Award as the 'UK's Favourite Vet', voted for by the British public, and as annual ambassador for the UK's annual National Pet Month he has recently been appointed as veterinary advisor to the Kennel Club of Great Britain.

Marc is Patron of Speaking Out For the Animals (SOFA), and is also responsible for co-creating innovative and ground-breaking social petworking website www.ThePet.net;, which has already attracted interest from over 2 million pet-owners.

Marc's favourite hobbies include snowboarding and scuba-diving, and his ambition is to travel to Antarctica - and dive under the ice!
