Kimiko Barber
Biography
Kimiko Barber was born in Kobe, Japan, and arrived in the U.K in 1972 after winning a scholarship to attend an English boarding school. She quickly realized that cooking was essential for survival, and recalled her childhood memories learning to cook with her three grandmothers and one in the cosmopolitan city of Kobe, another in the ancient beautiful city of Kyoto and the third in a rustic country kitchen on the rural island Shikoku.
After a decade-long successful career in international investment both in London and Tokyo, a chance visit to 'Books for Cooks' in Notting Hill inspired her to change career and focus on cooking and entertaining. Kimiko Barber now teaches Japanese cooking at a number of UK cookery schools.
Her first book Sushi Taste and Technique (Dorling Kindersley, 2002) won the bronze award in the 'Best Food Book' category in The Jacob's Creek World Food Media Awards. Easy Noodles (Ryland Peters & Small, 2003) was nominated for 'Best Cookery Book' at The Guild of Food Wrietrs Award 2003, and The Japanese Kitchenwas published by Kyle Cathie in 2004. Her most recent book is The Yo! Sushi Cookbook (HarperCollins, 2007), and she is currently writing The Chopsticks Diet for Kyle Cathie. Kimiko Barber regularly appears as a food expert on BBC television and radio
Kimiko Barber is married to an English banker, dividing her time between London and rural Oxfordshire, and has three boys and a black Labrador.
