Chrissie Wellington

Chrissie Wellington is the world-record holder for ironman-distance triathlon. She is the current and three-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion, having won the World Championship consecutively in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She is noted for having won the World Championship less than a year after turning professional, an achievement which has been described as 'a remarkable feat, deemed to be a near impossible task for any athlete racing as a rookie at their first Ironman World Championships'. She is also the first British athlete to hold the Ironman Triathlon World Championship, and remains undefeated over the Ironman distance. In addition to the Ironman titles, she was also the 2006 ITU Age Group World Champion and the 2008 ITU long-distance World Champion.

  • Chrissie Wellington debuts at Number One on The Sunday Times Bestseller List

    Congratulations to Chrissie Wellington, whose autobiography A Life Without Limits has gone to Number One in the Sunday Times Hardback bestseller list, in its first full week of sale. Chrissie Wellington is the world's No 1 female Ironman triathlete, a four times World Champion, having recently won the her fourth title in October 2011 and the World Record holder. In 2009 she was voted 'Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year' and in 2010 was awarded the MBE. Chrissie has displayed unprecedented levels of stamina, strength and competitiveness in becoming Ironman World Champion in only her second event at Ironman level. Her victory in Kona, Hawaii in 2007 finishing five minutes ahead of her nearest rival was described as the 'biggest upset in Ironman history' and 'a remarkable feat, deemed to be near impossible task for any athlete racing as a rookie at their first Ironman World Championships'. A Life Without Limits is the remarkable story of how a Norfolk girl - a 'sporty kid, swimming, playing hockey, running, but never excelling and always more interested in the social side of the sports scene' - became a world champion.

    Congratulations to Chrissie Wellington on the publication of her autobiography A Life Without Limits, published in the UK by Constable. US publication by Hachette follows in May. Chrissie's inspirational story of her journey to become four time ironman triathlon World Champion and World record holder has received huge media attention, including pieces in The Guardian, The Independent, The Financial Times, The Sun and The Express. The Daily Mail wrote: 'What emerges from this book is the portrait of a thoroughly nice woman. Her exceptional qualities have led her to achievements that her readers can scarcely imagine. But she still remains touchingly connected to that ordinary girl from Norfolk. It is a winning combination.' As well as significant print media coverage, Chrissie has appeared on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live, and at a number of signings.     New York, NY) Hachette Book Group announced today that it will publish A Life Without Limits by the world's number one female ironman athlete Chrissie Wellington. The book is scheduled for publication in May 2012 in the Center Street imprint. Since she began racing in 2006, Chrissie Wellington has placed first in twenty-nine of the thirty-seven races she has entered. She is a triple World Ironman Champion, ITU World Long Course Champion, World Age Group Champion and multiple World Record holder. She is currently undefeated in ironman races- winning 12 out of 12. The ironman distance triathlon comprises a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run. After obtaining her Undergraduate and Masters degrees, and spending two years travelling round the world, Chrissie worked for the UK Government as an advisor on international environment and development policy. Having always had a passion for development work, in 2006 she took a sabbatical from her civil service career to live and work in Nepal. It was here that Chrissie also discovered her natural gift for endurance sport - which included a 1200km cycle trip across the Himalayas. She returned to the UK in 2006, determined to take up the triathlon challenge and, to her surprise, managed to win the World Amateur Championships only 4 months later. In 2007, aged thirty, Chrissie began racing professionally. She took the triathlon world by storm by becoming World Ironman Champion that same year - which has been described as "a remarkable feat, deemed to be a near impossible task for any athlete racing as a rookie at their first Ironman World Championships." She remains undefeated at the ironman distance. She was named The Sunday Times (London) Sportswoman of the year in 2009.
