Nigel Smith

Nigel Smith - A former journalist, busker, playwright and TV comedy producer, Nigel has worked with many of the UK's middlest-sized names in showbusiness. He created and co-wrote the BBC One sitcom Doctors and Nurses. He wrote the highly acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series Vent, which is when his mum stopped talking to him. He's half responsible for the popular BBC Radio 2 comedy Teenage Kicks. This time his kids stopped talking to him. In 2001 he suffered a serious brain illness which, frankly, he never stops banging on about.

He is married with three children and lives on the south coast with most of them.

His I Think There's Something Wrong With Me was bought by Transworld in a six-figure pre-emptive two-book deal.

  • The funniest case of brain-freeze I've ever heard about

The funniest case of brain-freeze I've ever heard about. IT IS A weird thing to say out loud, but I laughed heartily when I recently read a book about a man's incredibly dangerous brain infection that rendered him totally paralysed. You may think me heartless, but it is one of the funniest books I've ever read. It is called I Think There's Something Wrong With Me. It is described as a comedy trauma and is written by Nigel Smith. This amazing real-life account of his hospital stay and slow progress after his brain shut down was totally hysterical. I read the whole book in one sitting and the man is now one of my favourite writers.
