Submissions

Mulcahy Conway Associates aims to do an exceptional job of representing all of its writers' needs. So, we take on new authors cautiously, ensuring that there is a good fit between their requirements and our agency.

We receive a very high volume of submissions so it is essential that you adhere strictly to our submission criteria.

We will not respond to submissions that do not follow our guidelines.

Fiction

We represent a wide range of Fiction, including literary, commercial and genre, as well as books for Children and Young Adults. We are seeking authors who will attract a general readership, and that we can build through both large and independent publishing houses. We do not handle science fiction. Quality of writing, distinctiveness of voice and strength of concept are among the strengths we look for.

    Material required:

  • Please send a covering letter, a synopsis, and the first 50 pages ONLY of the manuscript.
  • If you would like a response please enclose an SAE, and state whether you would like your material returned or recycled if unsuccessful.

The manuscript should be in either Word or PDF format and MUST:

  • Be double spaced
  • Contain page numbers
  • Contain a page header or a page footer on each page showing your name and book title
  • Not be stapled or bound

Non-fiction

For non-fiction submissions, a review of the authors and books areas of this website will demonstrate the diversity of writers that we represent. Your subject may be a profound or light-hearted one and your style may be anything from authoritative to quirky. What we seek is a book topic that will attract a general readership, written by an author who is appropriately qualified. The most important element is always the quality of the writing.

    Material required:

  • A non-fiction proposal must contain detailed but concise information about your subject, and about the qualifications and experience that will enable you to write the book.
  • It is important to have at least a short sample of the material, a brief synopsis of your proposal or manuscript, and an accompanying letter of typically one or two pages. Please follow the formatting requirements for fiction submissions.
  • Please summarise any competing books on the subject, why your proposal distinguishes itself, and any other information about yourself that will be of relevance to your written work.
  • If you would like a response please enclose an SAE, and state whether you would like your material returned or recycled if unsuccessful.

Fiction and Non-fiction

Please let us know if your proposal is on submission to other agencies. Many submissions are sent to us and if you enclose an SAE we will always reply to your enquiry, though this may take some time due to the volume of submissions that we receive. We aim to respond within 6 weeks.

Every submission will be read and considered, but we cannot reply to every unsolicited author individually. If your submission is not successful and you have not included an SAE, we will not be able to send you a response and we will not enter into email correspondence. We do not accept international reply paid coupons.
